Although so many boat builders have included the barrelled style backs, the Chris Craft is the most popular. From about 1940 the first 17 footer was released and classified as a Barellback. Chris Craft also have a 19 and 23 foot Barellback from about the same era. This design is based on the lines of the same style of boat.
It’s easy to see why it’s classified as such with the rear hull sides sweeping up and forming seamlessly into the top deck. The transom view shows a curved top blending into the sides, no real straight edges.
The plans for the Barellback are the simplest available. There are only some 18 parts which include frames, keel, stem, breasthook and chine logging. Arrangement plans show frame saplings and heights from baseline for ease of set-up.
